Trucks - Wetz falls out early on, Batista capitalizes on wreck to win.

FLEMINGTON - The 2nd race of the season started with Josh Batista score the pole with a blazing lap of 20.379, the fastest lap set of the whole race weekend, and unlike Lareau who won from the back last week, Batista started on pole, and by the end of the race, he was there again, as he scored his first win in the truck series, and for the first time this year, the winner was the first driver to cross the line.

At the other end of the field, Chris Wetz was caught up in a very early lap wreck, and he fell out of the race due to this incident, and due to the fact he wasn't feeling too well while racing. Wetz took his first LASTCAR win in the truck series, and scored the first LASTCAR win for the "Independents", for people who don't have a team. Dan Mackay also fell out early on, unsuprisingly, due to a "gearbox" issue.

Top 5 Worst Crashes of the Week - Week #1

Hey guys, it's Ben here. Usually, Tom writes in LASTCAR ISRA blog, but I'll be doing the Top 5 Worst Crashes weekly every sunday. This weekend consistented of:
F5 @ Cleveland
Modifieds @ Salem
Trucks @ Flemington
Rally @ Mirage II & Mirage GP
Cup Testing Day

So, without further ado, here is Week 1 of the worst crashes.

5) Colin Stiles @ Flemington

Midway through the truck event, Colin Stiles got together with another truck, and soon enough, he found himself upside-down in the fourth turn of this tricky track. Colin managed to drive away from the incident, only to fall out later on in the race, finishing 9th.

4) The Big One @ Salem

In the closing laps of this caution-filled Salem race, a chain reaction incident was triggered up towards the front of the field, and several cars were collected, including Brandon Lareau, Jacob Eichholtz and Tom Delgado. Unfortunately, this would see them three mentioned out of the race, and several other drivers ended the race a lap down due to the massive mess.

3) Jacob Eichholtz @ Charlotte (Cup Testing)

Another chain reaction crash occurred in this crash, but Eichholtz took top honors in this crash, as his car managed to actually go up into the air and upside-down out of turn 2. This crash also had Joe Branch goes upside-down, but not in such a spectacular fashion as Eichholtz. Ben Atkins and Zach Duff also were involved in this lap 2 incident.

2) Ben Atkins + Matt Brinson @ Flemington

A very early crash in the Flamboro race in the truck series seen a spectacular tumble for both Brinson and Atkins, when they "warped" together and were both seen flipping, with Atkins managing to do cartwheels. ON A SHORT TRACK. Despite this whole mess, Atkins managed to drive away with minor damage, and finish the race in 4th. Brinson unfortunately caused the next incident as well, and was forced to park his car.

1) The Big One @ Mirage

A rare pile-up in the rallycross series seen several cars go flipping on the first lap of the first race in the rallycross weekend. Since the damage was on moderate, though, most cars were somehow able to drive their cars away. I'd like to see them do that in real life. Zach Duff was the only car to go out of the race, after he was hit from behind by Ben Atkins, and was sent flipping down the track.

So there was the first top 5 crashes of this weekend, expect to hear more from me every weekend!

Modifieds - Phillip Wrecks Early in Salem Wreckfest

This race recap is brought to you by Lauda Airlines, the best fake airline ever, with world class aviator Peter Short flying every single plane!

SALEM, INDIANA - A wreckfest was expected tonight at the Salem Speedway in Indiana, and a wreckfest is exactly what ISRA and all the fans at the track got. Double-file Restarts were waived for this race, and rightfully so. Cautions were had every 2-3 laps and lasted about 4-5 laps, and on the very first caution, Nick Phillip was caught up in a mess that sent him out of the race. Last place is a very unfamiliar position for him, but then again you have to consider the volatile nature of the modified series and its propensity for wrecks.

The last time that Phillip finished last in an ISRA-sanctioned event is not known as of press time, but it should be the last time this talented driver sees himself at the bottom of the results for quite awhile. For those interested, Cliff Raymond probably started a new streak by emerging victorious on a night where most of the laps were led by Brett Bodine in the Pontiac pace car!

Also thanks to Justin Lewis not finishing last tonight, Tom Delgado in the #3 SAAR modified for Mopar Magic Racing has clinched this season's ISRA LASTCAR award. Delgado had 4 last place finishes, all of the "start and park" manner. He was ordered to park early tonight as well to make sure he clinched the last place championship, but due to the amount of cautions that transpired, he was allowed to attempt the entire distance. Unfortunately he would not finish this race either, as he apparently had a flight to catch, retiring on lap 46 of the scheduled 50 lap distance.

THE BOTTOM FIVE

17. #21 Nick Phillip - 3 laps - "Didn't want to rice"
16. #3 Tom Delgado - 46 laps - "Had a Lauda Air flight to catch"
15. #36 Brandon Lareau - 46 laps - "Pika Pika, Pikachu!"
14. #55 Jacob Eichholtz - 46 laps - Crash
13. #44 Matt Brinson - 49 laps - Running

F5 - GnarlyBot Not So Gnarly, First Last Place For a Bot This Season

CLEVELAND, OHIO - 32 drivers traveled to Cleveland seeking the satisfaction of victory, and all but one would leave disappointed. However, bots don't have feelings, so it was hard to tell how GnarlyBot felt about finishing last this evening at the airport circuit. Gnarly fell out after 7 of the scheduled 32 laps after crashing out. A very uneventful race with Josh Batista emerging victorious, and keeping with the theme of the day, he won free flights for a year aboard Lauda Airlines, piloted by world class aviator Peter Short.

Cup - Putnam Wins Race, Branch Wins Championship, Delgado Gets Top 10 Despite Last Place

ATLANTA, GA - In a night where championships were clinched, Tyler Putnam won the Cup finale at Atlanta, capping off a strong season for BMI. Joe Branch finished 2nd, and that allowed him to win the championship by 5 points over Cliff Raymond. Branch won at Las Vegas, and had 18 top 5's en route to the championship.

Since there were only 10 cars who started the race, everyone was guaranteed a top 10. Tom Delgado cinched up his 3rd last place finish of the weekend, self-spinning to cause the first caution on lap 2. He then took the car off the track and retired. This is Delgado's 3rd last place finish of the cup season, but it is not enough to win the ISRA Cup Series LASTCAR Championship. With 4 last place finishes, Dan Mackay in his various "start and park" cars, won the last place championship. One of them is shown above, the #14 Petro Canada Dodge Charger.

THE BOTTOM FIVE

Rallycross - Cliff Raymond is Human After All in Race 2, Putnam Mantups His Way to Last in Race 1

MONSTURD DIRT TRACK (Another Fictional Track) - The two Rallies of Monster Trucks gave us different winners for the first time in the young Rallycross season. It also gave us two more names to add to the last place standings. One of them you'd be shocked to see ever get on that list. Cliff Raymond proved that he was human in the second race, retiring after completing just 1 of 10 laps. In the first race, Tyler Putnam got caught up in an accident after completing 3 of 10 laps. The self-proclaimed king of the "start and park" drivers, Dan Mackay, crashed out right after Putnam did.

THE BOTTOM FIVE (Race 1)

18. #39 Tyler Putnam - 3 laps - Crash
17. #001 Dan Mackay - 3 laps - Crash

Retro Trucks - Sandy's Aussie Internet Explodes, Lareau Scores Upset in #3

DAYTONA - The opening race of the Retro Truck series saw Joe Branch win the pole with a time of 49.527, but tonight Brandon Lareau showed that it doesn't matter where you start, it's where you finish. He started 10th and the youngster from North Carolina was the beneficiary of a penalty that took the race win away from Tyler Putnam after he caused an incident on the final lap of the race. This is the first win of Brandon Lareau's ISRA career, and from all of us at ISRA LASTCAR, here's to a whole bunch more.

Meanwhile at the back, Tom Delgado was looking for win #1 himself as was the Formula 5 Indy Lights champion from Season 5 Barton Sandy. (Lights wins are not recognized by ISRA LASTCAR as official wins) Unfortunately for Barton, his night would end early due to faulty internet after completing just 22 laps. Meanwhile for Delgado, he was in the middle of several wrecks, and despite no damage, he wound up finishing 15th on the tail end of the lead lap. However, since it's last place that we care about most, Barton Sandy gets the recognition here. It's his 1st last place finish since he finished last (15th) at Bowman Gray in the Modified series on July 15th.

FUN FACT: This is the first last place finish for a car numbered 80-89 since the opening race of the Formula 5 season, when Matthew Contey scored a last place finish in the #85.

Modifieds - Delgado: "He who parks first, parks best!"

RICHMOND, VA - Tom Delgado took the friday night sweep of last place finishes by taking his #3 Saar Trinity modified behind the wall on lap 7 of the scheduled 60 lap event. In doing so, he also won a bet with fellow "start and park"'er Dan Mackay. Delgado's modified suffered damage after a self-spin and a hit in the wall. It didn't bring out a caution, but it was enough for Delgado to call it a night.

As with most of the modified races this season, the race ended under caution with Josh Batista ending Cliff Raymond's 5-race winning streak in the series, and earning 10 bonus points in the process for taking the bounty.

Formula 5 - Backmarking Bots Wreak Havoc Early, Delgado's Day Over on Lap 1

MIDRANG, GAUTENG, SOUTH AFRICA - Without the need for an Indy Lights race this week, everyone got a chance to put their car on the grid. However, Tom Delgado was playing the strategy card, opting not to make a qualification lap in hopes of watching the AI cars fail themselves and for him to benefit from it. Unfortunately, with the likes of FJ Balcon & GnarlyBot starting at the back and being excessively slow, Delgado's problems started the moment the green flag waved. A tangle with Chazz Michael Michaels made the MRD-Simtek car's engine start to go sour, and a run-in with GnarlyBot coming off the final corner of lap 1 finished it off. As a result, Tom Delgado was forced to settle for his first last place finish of the Formula 5 season. He was immensely disappointed with the early exit, and admitted that it could become a trend similar to last season, where he had 20 straight DNF's between Formula 5 events and Indy Lights races before his 11th place finish at Rattlesnake.

Cup Series: Phillip Capitalizes on Batista's Misfortune, Miserable Campaign Continues for Delgado With 2nd Last Place of Season

LASTCAR IS A BROCK BEARD PRODUCTION, GO TO http://brockbeard.blogspot.com TO READ THE REAL THING!

TROIS-RIVIERES - Josh Batista had one of the best cars out there tonight, but misfortune strikes him as the tire blows out on the final lap, allowing Nick Phillip to capitalize and win his 7th race of the season and his first in the chase, setting up a final showdown at Atlanta for the championship between Cliff Raymond, Joe Branch, Josh Batista, and (MAYBE) Nick Phillip. Cliff leads by 4 points over Joe, 29 over Batista, and 72 over Nick, who may need some luck to win the title next week.

Among the backmarkers, Tom Delgado was all over the place, sustained heavy damage, and pulled his #73 Joe Tree & Lawn Care Charger into the garage after just 4 of the 44 laps. Delgado was destined to run a short race after a dismal practice session, and his intention was to "start & park" after a handful of laps, but an early caution allowed Delgado to stay out a few more laps. Unfortunately, he got heavy damage on lap 4 overshooting one of the turns and hitting the tire wall, and had to pull it into the garage. This is Delgado's 2nd Cup Series last place finish of the season, and his 2nd last place finish of the weekend.

AUTUMN HILL (FICTIONAL TRACK) - Cliff Raymond continued his dominance over ISRA this weekend with a sweep of the debut ISRAllycross events at Autumn Hill. On the other side of the spectrum, Zach Duff and Josh Batista disappointed their fans with unexpected last place finishes in race 1 and race 2 respectively. Duff only finished one lap of the first race, while Batista crashed out of the second race while only finishing one lap as well.

Cliff Raymond can make it a complete weekend sweep by winning the ISRA Cup Series event at Trois-Rivieres on Sunday evening.

North American Modified Tour - Raymond Wins 5th Straight Modified Race, Delgado Calls it a Night Early

CAYUGA - Cliff Raymond marched towards a sweep of the ISRA racing weekend with his 5th straight modified event win, and his 7th win of the season. This has given him a massive 159 point lead over Josh Batista in the season championship. Meanwhile at the back of the field, Tom Delgado made good on his promise to call it an early night as he retired 11 laps into the 50 lap event, citing the fact that he was upside down. This is his 3rd ISRA last place award of the Modified season.

This gives the usually dominant Mopar Magic Racing a series-high 4 last place finishes on the season, 3 of them belonging to Delgado, the other belonging to fellow ISRA rising star Ryan Griffin.

Formula 5 - Raymond Emerges Victorious, Contey Parks Early

LASTCAR IS A BROCK BEARD PRODUCTION, GO TO http://brockbeard.blogspot.com TO READ THE REAL THING!

LONG BEACH, CA - Coming off a 16th place finish at Homestead which saw him get ejected for reckless driving, Matthew Contey in the #85 Sprite car continued to struggle to come to grips with driving online as he putzed around to a last place finish on the Long Beach circuit. He fell out without completing a single lap to claim his first last place finish of the season. He was one of three drivers to not complete a lap in this race, as Josh Chin and Colin Stiles fell out on the first lap due to incidents as well.

Cliff Raymond grabbed his first win of the season, and the 4th win of his Formula 5 career, putting him in a tie for 3rd all-time in wins for the series. Ian Cooper leads the championship with 31 points, with Raymond in 2nd 6 points back. Last week at Homestead, Ian Cooper won the first race of the season while Matt Brinson finished last in his only drive for MRD-Simtek before joining Ceej Motorsports.
